General Manager – Full-Service Independent Hotel | Mobile, AL
200 Rooms. No Brand Manual. Your Name on the Results.
Ready to run a hotel where you set the standard instead of following a brand manual?
A&R Hospitality is hiring a General Manager to lead an independent, full-service hotel of about 200 rooms in Mobile, Alabama, with food and beverage, catering, and banquet operations.
There's no brand playbook here. You'll shape the guest experience, the service culture, and the revenue strategy yourself, with the backing of an experienced hospitality company.
Why This Role Is Different
At a branded hotel, the brand writes the rules and gets much of the credit. At an independent hotel, the GM defines what the hotel stands for, and the results reflect that leadership directly.
You'll lead a large team across Rooms, Food & Beverage, Sales, Catering, Banquets, and Engineering. You'll build business from Mobile's convention, corporate, cruise, wedding, and Mardi Gras demand, and represent the hotel as a respected leader in the local community.
You'll report to A&R's Regional Director of Operations, with the authority to make decisions and real support behind you.
What You'll Own
Executive Leadership & Strategic Direction
Serve as the senior on-property leader, fully accountable for hotel performance
Develop and execute the annual business plan, including revenue strategy, capital planning, and operating goals
Define and uphold the hotel's own service standards, guest experience, and identity in the market
Communicate performance, risks, and opportunities to corporate leadership and ownership
P&L Management & Financial Performance
Own the full P&L across all departments and revenue streams
Drive revenue growth while controlling expenses to maximize GOP and NOI
Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis

Maintain strong controls over payroll, purchasing, and capital spending
Revenue Management, Sales & Marketing
Partner with the Director of Sales and revenue management to maximize top-line performance
Shape pricing strategy, segmentation, group mix, and demand forecasting
Grow direct bookings and manage OTA and channel distribution without a brand reservation system or loyalty program behind you
Drive group, corporate, catering, wedding, and transient business
Oversee the hotel's website, digital marketing, social media, and local partnerships
Track market trends, competitors, and demand drivers across Mobile and the Gulf Coast
Food & Beverage, Catering & Banquets
Provide executive oversight of all restaurant, bar, kitchen, and banquet and catering operations
Ensure profitability, quality, and food safety compliance
Monitor inventory, cost of goods sold, labor productivity, and menu performance

Drive continuous improvement in processes and service delivery
Leadership & Talent Development
Lead, mentor, and develop department heads and leadership teams
Set clear expectations and hold leaders accountable for results
Facilitate fact-finding when employee relations issues arise, in partnership with Human Resources
Consistently enforce A&R company policies and Standard Operating Procedures, and train leaders when gaps are identified
Drive engagement, retention, and succession planning
Asset Management & Capital Planning
Protect and maintain the physical asset for long-term value
Oversee engineering and preventative maintenance programs
Partner with ownership and corporate leadership on capital improvement planning
Lead hurricane preparedness and storm recovery for the property and team

Ownership & Community Relations
Serve as the primary liaison with ownership, asset management, and corporate leadership
Provide timely, accurate reporting and updates
Lead executive committee meetings on performance and strategy
Represent the hotel in the Mobile community, with civic organizations, the convention and visitors bureau, and local business partners
What Success Looks Like
The hotel beats budget and grows market share against branded competitors
Direct bookings increase and reliance on OTAs decreases
Guest reviews and online rankings climb
Food & Beverage and banquets run profitably and earn repeat business
Your leadership team grows stronger, and turnover falls
Requirements
5–7+ years of progressive hotel leadership experience
Prior General Manager experience at a full-service hotel with food and beverage, catering, and banquet operations
Proven P&L ownership of a complex, multi-department operation
