General Manager – Hotel

Introduction

An established hotel in Clarens is seeking an experienced and hands-on General Manager to take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management, leadership and operational performance of the property.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hospitality professional who enjoys being actively involved in hotel operations, leading teams and maintaining exceptional guest and service standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversee the overall day-to-day operations and performance of the hotel.
• Lead and manage teams across all operational departments.
• Maintain high standards of guest service and manage escalated guest matters.
• Oversee front office, reservations and guest services.
• Manage food & beverage and kitchen operations, including service standards, stock, wastage and cost control.
• Oversee housekeeping, room standards and public areas.
• Oversee the effective operation of the spa.
• Manage staffing, scheduling, training, performance and operational HR matters.
• Oversee purchasing, stock control and supplier relationships.
• Ensure the hotel property, facilities and equipment are well maintained.
• Monitor occupancy, room revenue, operational expenditure and opportunities to improve profitability.
• Manage and optimise online booking and distribution platforms.
• Support hotel sales and marketing initiatives and maintain relationships with relevant business partners.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, food hygiene and operational requirements.
• Provide regular operational reporting and work closely with senior management/ownership.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Minimum 5 years' relevant hospitality experience, including substantial hotel operational management experience.
• Previous experience as a General Manager, Hotel Manager or in a senior hotel operations management position is strongly preferred.
• Afrikaans fluency
• Experience managing multiple departments within a boutique or full-service hotel environment.
• Strong understanding of front office, reservations, housekeeping and food & beverage operations.
• Strong leadership and people-management skills.
• Commercially aware with a good understanding of hotel costs, operational efficiency and profitability.
• Excellent communication, organisation and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong guest-service orientation and a hands-on management approach.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Business Management or a related field is advantageous.
• Experience working with hotel PMS systems is required; PAN Hospitality knowledge will be advantageous.
• Experience with online travel agencies and hotel distribution platforms will be advantageous.
